I thoroughly enjoyed Maryjane’s passion for birth during a Birth Doula Workshop through DONA International that I taught about 6 months ago in Pleasant Gap. Maryjane was so knowledgeable about the birthing process that I asked her if she were a Nurse or nursing student. She was self-taught and I was very impressed as I meet many women in workshops that are passionate, but she is also knowledgeable. She joined in had great appropriate questions. I know she will not only make a great Birth Doula but someday will also go on to be a midwife.

HISTORY & MISSION

My name is Maryjane Stahr

Since I was 8 years old, I was fascinated by the medical field. At 14, I started reading a few family medical guides that my mom had in the house. I would lay in bed at night, learning as much as possible about birth. I realized that I wanted to go into Medical School to be able to go into the field of birth and delivery. I told people about my interest and by doing so, I heard about being a Midwife. I didn’t believe Midwives existed, so I did some research and found out what Midwives do and got hooked on a British show called " One born Every Minute." I decided that I was going to purue being a Midwife. I looked into Birthwise Midwifery School located in Maine. They required that you be certified as Doula. Through DONA International’s webpage, I found all the necessary information to become be certified. July 2015, I took the required 16 hour DONA International Birth Doula Course that was instructed by Julie Thompson, AdvCD(DONA); BDT(DONA); PPD(DONA)

From the age of 14 - till now at the age of 18, I have studied and have recieved adequate skills to be an effective Doula for you.

As your Doula, I am by your side to give you emotional support and physical comfort measures by various techniques that will be shown to you. I am a guide to your birth partner. Your whole birth experience is so unique. It is my role to help you have a positive memory about your birth event, so that you have a wonderful story to tell others.
